As for my academic background, I received a BA degree with honors in Psychology from the University of South Florida in 2001. I later went on to receive a MA and Specialist degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and Mental Health Counseling from the University of Florida in 2005. In 2006 I received a certificate in EEG Neurotherapy.

Premarital, marital, and family therapy is practiced from a systemic perspective. In therapy, the couple and family are viewed as a system and will learn about their beliefs and ways of acting and reacting within that system. Individual therapy focuses on assisting clients to work through issues, which can also affect the couple/family. Depending on the situation, I practice using an Adlerian, Gottman, or Cognitive Behavioral Approach.

Therapy is an active process that at times may include homework, practicing techniques, or challenging current beliefs and behaviors. In session, we will work together, but out of session you will be given tools to do the work that will help change to occur when we are not working together. It is necessary to take part in your own growth and identify your desires for change and practice your newly learned skills.
