What is a Psychology Resident? Doctoral Psychology Residents are professionals who hold a Master’s degree in psychology and are currently completing their Doctorate in Clinical Psychology.
As part of their doctoral education, these Residents undergo rigorous academic and clinical training. A key component of their program involves completing supervised practicum hours—hands-on clinical work overseen by licensed psychologists. This is a critical requirement for earning a doctoral degree in clinical psychology and, ultimately, becoming a licensed psychologist.
All licensed psychologists have completed this intensive training and supervision process as part of their path to becoming doctoral-level mental health professionals.
To review and understand the practicum training requirement for Doctoral Residents, please view the ASPPB manual.
Benefits of Working with a Psychology Resident At our practice, Doctoral Psychology Residents receive direct supervision from a team of experienced licensed psychologists: Dr. Bulent Dincer, Dr. Laura Dincer, Dr. Jessica Mahoney, and Dr. Lauren Brown. This collaborative supervision model provides a rich, multidisciplinary perspective that enhances both the training of the Resident and the quality of care delivered to clients.
By working with a Psychology Resident, clients benefit not only from the Resident’s advanced education and clinical training, but also from the collective expertise of multiple licensed psychologists who provide direct supervision. In addition to this individualized oversight, Residents also participate in weekly group supervision through their doctoral training programs. This comprehensive, team-based approach ensures well-informed, high-quality care tailored to each client’s unique needs.
Additionally, services provided by Psychology Residents are offered at a reduced rate compared to fully licensed clinicians, making high-quality care more accessible.
Please note that because Psychology Residents are not yet licensed, their services cannot be billed to insurance.
